Jonette Murray is a self-taught Wellington artist who is currently exploring the 'peace' of still life and nature in her realistic oil paintings.
She uses classical painting techniques to create depth and vibrant colour in her works (on panel). 'Mortality' is a recurring theme in her painting's - her subject matter often depicting both life, and death - as well as personal stories hidden or disguised by her compositions.
"I often place fruit - or a flower (which looks beautiful, but often fades fast), beside a vintage object which is tinged with destruction, yet has endured the years. This contrast serves as a reminder to live your life fully - for today is all we really have".
Murrays' painting's have a sense of 'meditative quiet' which the artist sees as being vital in todays busy world.
